Last night, teammates Justin Davis (2017) and Tyshon Hanberry (2018) pulled off an improbable feat in the Redwings 73-46 Varsity Basketball victory over Union City….It is not too often a basketball program has a 1000 point scorer. It is even more rare for a program to have two 1000 point scorers in the same season. However, statistically speaking, it is almost impossible for a team to have two players reach the 1000 point milestone in the same game. However, that is exactly what these two Redwing stars did — defying the odds even more, they both reached the goal in the same quarter!
Davis, who needed 22 points entering the game, hit a layup with about 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter to get to the magic number. Coincidentally, Davis was named the Hudson Reporter’s Athlete of the Week a few days ago (CLICK HERE TO READ ARTICLE). Meanwhile, Hanberry, who needed 29 points entering the evening, had a blistering first half, scoring 15 points. Needing 8 points entering the 4th quarter, he hit two free throws for 999 and 1000 with about 2 minutes remaining.
Head Coach Shaun Kolmer stated, “I’m so proud of these two young men….They work hard on the court and have put a lot of time in to make themselves and our program better. Last night was a special night for them, their families, our basketball team, our fans who were there, and the entire Redwing community.”
The boys will be honored briefly for their accomplishment prior to their next home game — this Friday, January 13th, vs Science Park at 6:00pm. “It will be nice for the boys to be recognized for that achievement, but we have a long season left and we have many more team goals to achieve, so it will be back to business,” Coach Kolmer said with a smile.
Please come join the celebration and root on the Redwings!
